Steel Sales & Customer Service

We are seeking a practical person to join our sales & stores team.   Breakwater Metaland specializes in steel & metal sales however our shop has a variety of products such as general hardware, engineering hardware, landscaping, fencing & trailer products.

Our customers come from a variety of trades however we also service retail customers undertaking various DIY jobs around the home.  As this is a busy environment you will need to be able to provide exceptional customer service while minimizing customer waiting time.

Previous retail, steel or relevant trade experience is an advantage.  Enthusiasm, willingness to learn & multi taking abilities are important characteristics to succeed in this role.  This is a full time Monday through Friday role.

Key Responsibilities

Retail Customer Service (Primary):

·         Greeting customers and assisting with product inquiries

·         Accurately process sales & cash handling using POS systems and basic computer applications

·         Determination of cutting lists for cut to size metal

·         Re-stock products on display

·         Maintaining a clean & organized work space

·         Being proactive in sales to build and expand existing customer base

General Store Duties (as required):

·         Steel processing and cutting to size

·         Picking and packing orders accurately and efficiently

·         Loading and unloading deliveries

·         Checking and putting away incoming products

·         Coordinating with production staff to ensure smooth operations

Position Requirements

·         Customer focused with a positive attitude

·         Strong communication skills to correctly interpret customer’s requirements

·         High level understanding of dimensions and numeracy, and/or mechanical aptitude   

·         Good mathematics & measuring ability

·         Familiar with the use of computers (Invoices & quotations processed through computers)

·         Ability to work in a busy environment, cope with interruptions & follow through on designated tasks

·         Physical capability to perform manual tasks

·         Reliability and punctuality are a must

·         Attention to detail

Preferred Skills

·         Valid forklift license

·         Experience operating a remote-control mobile crane (advantageous but not essential)

Managers Comments

This is a job that requires a person who takes pride in their work, concentrates, checks and does not like making mistakes.  Generally a person who has a trade background or makes things for themselves in steel, timber etc. who knows and understands the importance of cutting a material list accurately to size with the correct quantities and from the right materials.   This is a job that suits a conscientious person who wants to learn and become a valuable member of our team.
